Remembrance Day in Romania

On 13th November 2011 the annual ceremony of commemorating the British and Commonwealth soldiers killed in war at the Commonwealth cemetery from Tancabesti will take place. Remembrance Day is also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day and it was dedicated by King George V to the sacrifices made by the members of the British armed forces who were killed during World War I, in 1918. Since then the ceremony is used to remember all who gave their lives in conflicts all over the world.

The red remembrance Poppy is the familiar emblem of the Remembrance Day, due to the Poem In Flanders Fields. Flanders was one of the worst battlefields during World War I and the red colored poppies are symbol of the blood spilt in the war.

The ceremony is observed from the 11th November starting with the period after World War I so as to recall the “end” of the war (most of the hostilities ended at the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month of 1918, when German signed the Armistice). Veritas Asset Management Personnel will be attending this solemn ceremony with religious flavor, laying a wreath as they have done every year.

At the event will also be participating Defense Ministry Officials, Ambassadors, Defense Attaches, Embassy Personnel and members of the British Community in Romania
